Situated in a village in rural Suffolk, amongst a cluster of residential and agricultural buildings, this site presented a series of opportunities — How can a new housing development on a greenfield site be of benefit to the local environment and ecosystems? How can the design help to strengthen social cohesion — integrating the future residents and families with the existing community?
Up until the 1980s the site was part of a large family-owned fruit farm, but over time its immediate context has become increasingly densified, with houses and farm buildings now surrounding it on 3 sides; on the fourth side, woodland separates the site from any other contiguous farmland.
IF_DO secured planning permission in December 2017 for the first phase of the development.
