The Whitbread Road project revitalises and extends a Victorian end-of-terrace home in Brockley, South London, merging historic character with contemporary design to foster a closer connection between the home and its garden. The rear extension opens the living space to the outdoors, with large openings and thoughtfully placed rooflights that flood the interiors with natural light. An inverted chamfered opening on the extension’s rear elevation reimagines the Victorian bay window, creating a sheltered transition that enhances the garden connection. Bespoke timber joinery brings warmth and tactility to the interiors, forging harmonious links between the old and new elements of the home. Once dark and enclosed, the kitchen is now transformed into a bright, open family space, offering an inviting, airy environment at the heart of the home.
